Not Yet is the product of the first Fashion Held in Common Book Sprint conducted by Pascale Gatzen, Bibi Straatman and participating Masters students of the Fashion Held in Common programme at the ArtEZ Fashion Masters, Arnhem. The book documents the cumulative results of a week-long investigation, inspired by Public Lectures and workshops that took place during the Fall 2018 semester. "Making a book in common means putting oneself on the edge. Asking: who is the audience? To whom do we pray? Who is the ?we? and who is the I? Who is the one with the ears and who is the one coming to terms with the risk of not being heard? (We were our own audience at first, and the ?we? had to be questioned). We wanted to ?share?, but we also felt vulnerable. How do we become common in the first place? Am I, or are we writing to gain entrance into myself? Ourselves? Is this an attempt to ?record? a self-inquiry in the first place? Do we write as a gift or as a quest, or both? In this discussion, someone in the group said: ?the ultimate act of love is to share oneself, emerging from the urgency to explore an inner dialogue?. Every conversation we had during this week contributed to exploring these questions and made me/us aware that we now have a different understanding of how to respond to the question: How do we bring the new in the world? This is always a question about creativity. To create, you know that there is something, but the form and the shape has not yet come into being. Until that moment, one is busy collecting bits and pieces." |
