Biografia Thomas Ashby

Thomas Ashby, archeologo (n. Staines, Middlesex, 1874 - m. in treno, nel Surrey, 1931); studiò a Oxford, fu vicedirettore (1903) e direttore (1906-25) della Scuola britannica di Roma; socio straniero dei Lincei (1918). Studiò la topografia romana e laziale (The Roman Campagna in classical times, 1927; revisione ed edizione del Topographical dictionary of ancient Rome di S. B. Platner, 1929). Ricercò, raccolse e pubblicò documenti, piante e vedute rinascimentali di monumenti antichi (ora in parte nella Biblioteca Vaticana, in parte nella Scuola britannica di Roma).
