Peter Singer è nato a Melbourne nel 1946 e ha studiato all’Università di Melbourne e di Oxford. Ha insegnato nelle Università di Oxford, New York, Colorado (Boulder), California (Irvine) e alla La Trobe University. È professore di Filosofia, codirettore dell’Institute of Ethics and Public Affairs e Deputy Director del Centre for Human Bioethics alla Monash University a Melbourne. Si occupa in particolare di etica ed è divenuto noto con il saggio Animal Liberation, pubblicato nel 1975, che è stato definito la bibbia dei movimenti di liberazione degli animali. Nei suoi studi, infatti, Singer sostiene che non ha senso la distinzione tra essere umano ed essere animale e che la sperimentazione sugli animali è moralmente indifendibile. Peter Singer è autore di numerosi saggi e articoli e ha curato le più importanti voci di Etica dell’Enciclopedia Britannica.
